Oak Park AYSO Region 697

Hello Oak Park AYSO!!!

We are pleased to announce our Spring 2021 AYSO Soccer Programming!!!

The AYSO Board has been meeting to determine if we can return to our traditional coach-led season or if we should return to our Fall 2020 trainer-led programming.

After much careful consideration – and with our sights firmly set on a return to a full season in the fall – we have decided to launch a Spring Trainer-Led Season, featuring Scrimmages, including a return of our VIP programming with the launch of VIP family soccer for players with Special Needs!

The Core programming is similar, but different, to the Fall season in that we will provide intra-pod scrimmages at every session, providing greater opportunities to put soccer skills to practice on a regular and competitive format!

The VIP Family Soccer program will allow a family to sign up a player with a disability and a non-disabled family member over the age of 16 to engage together on the field in skills based soccer training. We will offer VIP once a week on Saturdays. We look forward to seeing our VIP players back on the field.

Similar to the Fall, our Spring season will feature limited, all co-ed, pod-based “teams” with a range of 16-24 players that are tied to that pod for the full 8-week session.  Pods are constructed along the same age ranges as our traditional seasons (U8, U10, U12, U14 and U19)..

These pods will practice at exclusive fields and have scheduled, recurring times - once during the week and again on Saturdays – for intra-pod scrimmages.  Saturdays will retain some of the “gameday” atmosphere as AYSO-sponsored Referees and linespeople will be present on Saturdays to help the kids have a wonderful experience.

Our trainer-led Sessions will be provided by Murray Findlay (of Edge) and his group of professional trainers.  Murray’s personnel will be present at all sessions – weekday and  Saturdays.

What is included this season?

Each co-ed pod will have an 80-minute weekday session, featuring trainer-led drills, followed by small-side games or scrimmages to put into practice those skills just practiced with the trainer.

In addition, each pod has an exclusive 60-minute Saturday session for a “Gameday Scrimmage” that will be at our typical Saturday fields, with the full field reserved for their pod.  Along with a trainer, they will have a center referee and 2 linespeople to add to the “Gameday” feel.

The season will cover 8 weeks, from Monday, April 12, through Saturday, June 5.

AYSO will be providing 2-sided pinnies to aid in the establishment of sides during both weekday and Saturday gamedays.

The trainers will supply sanitized balls prior to each session.  If your player has their own ball – especially one from our Fall sessions – they are welcome to bring their ball with them as well!

Are masks required?

Yes!  Masks are always required by all participants.  This includes players, parents at pick-up or drop-off, referees, linespeople – everyone!

We are keeping attendance at or below 25 per pod (1 trainer plus 16-24 players).  We are providing “passing time” between sessions for one pod to leave and the other to arrive.

We will follow-up closer to the season with guidelines regarding parents / family viewing of the Saturday sessions.  We’ll be working with the Park District to ensure that attendance, social gathering and mask-wearing protocols are followed.

Further details will be forthcoming closer to the start of the season.

When can I register?

Registration opens tonight, at 7pm!!!

We have returned to our traditional season pricing this Spring, including the return of our Early Bird Discount and sibling discounts.

Full price is $175/player, but there is a $50 Early Bird discount through Wednesday, 3/17 (or while enrollment is available).  A $50 per player sibling discount is available for 2nd and 3rd siblings as well.

The National AYSO fee of $20 is charged once per year (year is defined as our Fall + Spring seasons).  If you played with us in the Fall, you will not have to pay the $20 National AYSO fee.

Please note that space is limited due to field availability and social distancing standards.  Depending on the breakout by age, we expect to be able to accommodate ~470 players this Spring.

There is a question at the end of the registration asking for a preference among the anticipated Pods that we have scheduled on a preliminary basis.  Please note: this is a preference ONLY, we cannot guarantee that the final pod schedule will align with our preliminary schedule or that every preference will be honored.  We will do our best to match players with their preferred pods!!!  If your player wishes to play with a friend, please ensure that both families select the same preference.  Again, we cannot guarantee they will be together, but we will do our best to align with your preferences.

Thank you for your continued support of AYSO and we are looking forward to the Spring Season with Trainer-Led Sessions and Scrimmages!!!

Kind regards,

Drew Dingman and the AYSO Board
