About Oak Park AYSO

Oak Park AYSO Region 697 was founded in 1979. We are a recreational league run by AYSO volunteers. We support more than 1,800 players in our Fall season and more than 800 players in the Spring. We welcome all new players in first grade through high school to participate in our Fall and Spring core program and our VIP soccer program

Our core program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement and learning that happens on the fields. AYSO is best known for our core program – it’s where the large majority of kids fall in love with soccer and make memories that will last a lifetime.

The mission of the AYSO VIP Program is to provide a quality soccer experience for individuals whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult for them to successfully participate on mainstream soccer teams. What is successful participation? It should be defined by the player’s enjoyment and the safety of all team members.

Our programs all operate with six core values – or what we call AYSO’s Six Philosophies:

  1. Everyone Plays
  2. Balanced Teams
  3. Open Registration
  4. Positive Coaching
  5. Good Sportsmanship and
  6. Player Development.

These are the essence of AYSO and it all starts with Everyone Plays.

Age Divisions

For Fall 2022, children born after December 31, 2016 are too young for our league. The Park District of Oak Park has a very good soccer program for younger children.

In alignment with US Soccer, AYSO has now adopted the use of “Birth-Year” leagues for youth soccer.  This has been the established practice globally for some time and its rollout in the US has expanded over the past 3 years.

Oak Park AYSO maintained the legacy grade-based program for as long as we could; however, with the start of the 2021-22 league year, this is a required format and we have adopted it to maintain our membership in AYSO.  We are continuing that format this year.

To convey and reinforce this shift, we have updated the labels of the divisions, leaving behind “U8, U10” in favor of the actual birth years that comprise the divisions.

Division 1 = 2015-2016 Birth Years (f.k.a. U8)
Division 2 = 2013-2014 Birth Years (f.k.a. U10)
Division 3 = 2011-2012 Birth Years (f.k.a. U12)
Division 4 = 2009-2010 Birth Years (f.k.a. U14)
Division 5 = 2004-2008 Birth Years (f.k.a. U19)
